Somalia, 25.8. 2008Silvie BurjankováAfter two days the somalian authorities finally managed to indentify the two missing journalists in their country. It is an Australian reporter Nigel Brenan with his Canadian colleague Amanda Lindhaut. Somalia's National Union of Journalists said they had been abducted along with a Somali reporter and their driver. News has varied so far and the possible place of their captivity or reasons of their abduction are not clear. Both media workers did not return to their hotel at the time announced ahead after going to visit cams for displaced people nearby the capital Mogadisho. Brenan and Lindhout work for the western media. Somalia authorities demanded the kidnappers to free all of them unconditionally and immediately. Journalists, who spoke on condition of anonymity for their security said, the abduction seems to be a pre-planned attack. Somalia has been without an effective government since 1991, and journalists and humanitarian workers are frequently kidnapped. |
