Uganda 11.12. 2009Silvie BurjankováUgandan officials passed a law prohibiting female circumcision. Those, who break the law, will face up to ten year imprisonment. However they can also be convicted to death penalty, if the victim dies during the operation. The mentioned ritual practice is distinguished as mutilation of genitals and is supposed to guarantee the female faithfulness in marriage, BBC internet server wrote. This tradition has still been used by some tribes in the east and northwest of Uganda as well as in the province Karamoja. The law is also supposed to prevent the discrimination of those people, who were refusing this tradition. |
